Recent executions of hostages by the Syria-Iraq based terror group ISIS has prompted retaliatory strikes by Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt in addition to continuing action by U.S., Iraqi, Kurdish, and NATO forces. This week, President Obama formally asked Congress to authorize the use of U.S. military force against ISIS for 3 years. This force would involve the use of limited ground forces including rescue missions and special operations work in addition to funding continuing airstrikes by warplanes and drones.
The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war, but the U.S. hasn't formally declared war since World War II. All military action since- including Korea, Vietnam, the First Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq, and now ISIS among other U.S. military responses have been initiated by the president and later approved by Congress through the voting of funding and the formal authorization of the use of force. This is what President Obama has asked for. Do you think Congress should approve?
